Edi Sigifredo Ortega, 20, of Altus, died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013, in rural Greer County, northwest of Mangum. His death was a result of an airplane crash.
Edi was born in Chihuahua Mexico on Dec. 4, 1992, to Sigifredo Ortega and Anaelia Ponce. Moving to Hollis at the age of six, Edi was a typical little boy who loved sports and being involved in every activity he could. A Hollis Tiger for 11 years, Edi was an honor student who loved football and baseball. In 2008, Edi fell in love with Laura Lee Ybarra, moved to Altus in 2011 and completed his schooling at Altus High School in May of 2012. An aviation student at Southwest Area VoTech, Edi loved working on airplanes and flying. Very family oriented, during his younger days, Edi helped his father while farming for Frankie Long. During his spare time, he loved boxing, being a Thunder fan and spending time with his wife and son whom he dearly loved.
Survivors include his wife, Laura Lee Ybarra, of the home in Altus; his son, Adrian Andres Ortega; his parents, Sigifredo and Anaelia Ortega of Hollis; one sister, Saira Ortega and Antonio Moreno of Wellington, Texas; one nephew, Yobani Moreno of Wellington; one niece, Yisel Moreno of Wellington; his mother-in-law, Patty Sanchez of Altus; along with many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m., Friday at the Harmon County Funeral Home Chapel in Hollis. Interment will follow at Fairmount Cemetery under the direction of Harmon County Funeral Home of Hollis.
