Alvin Lee Chandler Sr. was born June 4, 1939 in Altus to Alfred Don (AD) Chandler and Janie Mae Chandler. His parents and only brother, Maurice, all preceded him in death.
Alvin graduated from Lincoln High School located in Altus where he was a star on the basketball team, participated in the student council, and played the alto saxophone in the school band. He also attended Altus Junior College.
Alvin married his lovely wife Annette (Baby Lee)Lee on March 17, 1961 and they had five girls and two boys together: Emily Charlene Reaves (Robert husband; three girls and five grandchildren); Tane Chandler-Cotton (three children and three grandchildren); Tia Arevalo (Sergio husband and two sons); Harlyn Chandler (Lorena wife and two daughters); Alvin Lee Chandler Jr. (Alejandre wife); Maury Ross (Alex husband); Patrice Chandler (three children).
Alvin was a lifelong member of Saint Johns Baptist Church, located in Altus, where he was baptized. He was very active in many church activities and was a Church Trustee and adult Sunday school teacher.
Alvin was a combat engineer in the United States Army where he did two tours in the Viet Nam War. He retired from the Army in 1979 at Fort Knox, Kentucky with 20 years of active duty service. He also retired from the Vernon State Mental Health Institution where he worked as a psychiatric technician.
Alvin was a Mason and Shriner, Past Master of Luckett Lodge # 137 in Hodgenville, Kentucky and also the District Grand Deputy of the State of Kentucky. He loved fishing, golf, playing pinochle and dominoes, loved all sports and was a faithful fan of the Dallas Cowboys.
Alvin was funny and articulate. He was intelligent and well spoken. He was well liked by his church family and the Altus community. He was loved by his family and friends, and will be missed.
