Vonda Choate Burnett, of Oklahoma City, died on March 25, 2013 at the age of 77. She is the daughter of Flournoy L. Choate and Maggie Louise Callahan Choate, born on May 27,1935, in Tipton.
Vonda graduated from Altus High School as valedictorian in 1953. She attended Oklahoma State University in Stillwater. She married Jesse Dale Dowdy in Altus in 1954. In 1979, Vonda married James R. Burnett of Oklahoma City. Vonda was a receptionist/bookkeeper for Drs. Tefertiller and Ray in Altus. Following that, she served as secretary to Drs. McPhail and Elsner in the Student Teacher office of Central State University in Edmond. She then joined TRG Drilling Company as secretary to the president of the Drilling Division. Following this, Vonda served as secretary in Will Rogers Elementary School in the Putnam City School District.
Vonda was a member of the Village Baptist Church in Oklahoma City where she was a choir member, Sunday School teacher and Director in the Married Young Adult department. She was a member of the VBC Handbell Choir. Later she was a member of First Baptist Church and Spring Creek Baptist Church in Oklahoma City before moving to Bella Vista, Ark. in 1999. In Bella Vista she was a member of the Judson Baptist Church.
Mrs. Burnett is survived by daughters Deborah Dale Dowdy and Jacquie S. McDonald of Oklahoma City; and step-son, Rhett B. Burnett and daughter-in-law Misty Burnett of Norman. She has four granddaughters, Erin Kozakiewicz of Oklahoma City, Chelsie, Scarlett, and Calysta Burnett of Norman; and one grandson, Rylan Burnett of Norman.
She was preceded in death by her husband James on Nov. 30, 2004; and her granddaughter, Kraleigh Burnett on June 4, 2006.
