Billy Joe Griffin, 78, passed away on Wednesday, May 8, 2013, at Methodist Health System in Dallas, Texas. Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m., Wednesday at the Altus City Cemetery with Ricky Lipscomb and De Jones officiating. Burial will be under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home.

Billy Joe was born March 16, 1935 in Paris, Texas to Nora Leola Woods and Clement Griffin. He married the love of his life, Vereta Mae White, on Oct. 15, 1956 and fathered four children. He lost his wife, Vereta, on May 16, 1962 and never remarried. Mr. Griffin worked for the Army Air Force Exchange System (AAFES) at Altus Air Force Base for over 25 years until his retirement.

He was preceded in death by his parents; loving wife, Rita Mae, of Vernon, Texas; and one great-great-grandson, Cincere Sims, of Orlando, Fla.

He is survived by his three daughters, Lynda Griffin of Dallas, Texas, Debra Peoples of Desoto, Texas, and Shirley Sims of Dallas; one son, Larry Griffin of Okmulgee; eight grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and a host of relatives and friends.
