The Board of Directors of the Altus Chamber of Commerce met for the monthly board meeting on Thursday, Aug. 8. Jim Gover, Chairman of the Board presided over the meeting. Two special reports were presented. The first was a review of the proposed City of Altus Charter that will be voted on Tuesday, Sept. 10. Jed Winters and Tom Buchanan reviewed the basics of the charter including the changes that will occur if the charter passes. Many questions were asked.

The Altus City Charter will be the first step in providing a more stable organization structure for our city. The second special report was presented by Patti Davis, Executive Vice President of the Oklahoma Hospital Association on the impact of Oklahoma not accepting additional Medicaid funding and its impact on Insure Oklahoma. This report will be reviwed again at the September board of directors meeting.

Other reports were heard from the Public Affairs, Business Development, Community Development, Economic Development and Organization Development Vice Presidents. Major Samantha Haberlach, representing Altus Air Force Base reported on activities at the base. Beginning Monday August 12th the base will have their Consolidated Unit inspection. Also the furlough time for civilian employees has been reduced from 11 weeks to 6 weeks so the furlough will end next week.

After much discussion, the Altus Chamber of Commerce board of directors voted unanimously to support passage of the proposed City Charter on Sept. 10, and encourages all citizens to vote yes on Sept. 10.
